When Rebekah Jarvey was growing up on the Rocky Boy Reservation, she was bullied for her clothes.

Jarvey, who is Chippewa Cree and Blackfeet, has generally considered of herself as an Indigenous fashionista but reported, at the time, it wasn’t preferred to have on dresses that represented Native tradition.

“It confined my means to convey myself. At the time, there were not seriously Indigenous designers. It wasn’t great to put on beaded earrings. Ribbon skirts weren’t seriously all-around then. It just wasn’t interesting to express on your own as an Indigenous individual,” she claimed. “You may well wear all those things to a powwow, that was socially acceptable, but you would not dress in that each day.”

But thanks to manner designers like Jarvey, people periods are switching as far more younger men and women proudly wear dresses and jewelry agent of Native tradition.
